5th Grade: Week 1 of our Digital Lesson

We just started looking at radial symmetry in the classroom with our printmaking project. To extend our learning let's get started on the project below!

The design you see is made with my name! To start this week off all you need to do is create a triangle with your name in it using bubble letters. Feel free to use a nickname, middle name or last name if you'd like! Follow the steps below to get started.

Getting Started

To get started you can download and print the provided template shown below. No way to print? No problem. Grab a sheet of paper, fold the paper on a diagonal by having the short edge meet the longer side, and cut off the extra to create a square. Unfold it and create another diagonal fold by having the other two corners meet. This should make an X. Then fold it in half vertically, unfold, and fold it in half horizontally. Ta-da, you have 8 triangles!

Use one of them as our tracer triangle and add your name. Was that a bit confusing or

think you need extra help? Click the image below to watch a video where I create my example.

Find the Files tab at the top of the page to download this file!

The 5th Grade folder will always have all the resources I show in my post.

Adding your name

Using bubble letters add your name to the triangle making sure you stretch each letter from the bottom of the triangle to the top. Your letters will look a little weird! They're supposed to, don't worry about it! Having trouble making bubble letters? Write your name normally and then add a bubble around each letter.

The key to making your tracer triangle work is to make sure your bubble letters stretch from the top diagonal edge of the triangle down to the bottom. Check out my example!

If you're having trouble picturing how each letter should look check out this great resource in the files tab. The stretched letters file contains the entire alphabet shown like the images shows below and should help you out! Just try to get your tracer triangle done this week and I'll show you how to repeat it next week. It's gonna look awesome!

Find the Files tab at the top of the page to download a file with the whole alphabet

Completed Tracer Triangle

When you're finished it should look something like the images below. Next week I'll be showing you how to repeat your design by using reflection symmetry!
